Ladies and gentlemen I am excited to announce that my co-writer, Dingos8myTardis, has not only moved out to Colorado but that we have begun the process of writing/producing/shooting “Fangirls: THE WEB SERIES!” For you not so long time followers, it has been Dingo’s and my dream to eventually turn this blog into a full blown news-typed series and finally our dream is coming true!

This blog will still be in use (of COURSE!) but be ready for some slight changes friends. Now that the web series will be dealing with the bigger articles, I have more of a chance to talk more candidly about life and personal musings as an actor, writer and fangirl. So GET READY! AH HA! I have discovered a solution my dear readers! Fun fact about your writer: when I cannot sleep at nights, I have a nasty little habit of online window shopping. As a result, I have actually scoured the internet FOR you, finding different websites that allow you to surf to your heart’s content for the uniquest and geekiest of gifts without having to leave the soft, comforting glow of the monitor! HOW FANTASTIC! So here is the list I was able to compile with a little blurb about what each one holds in store.

This is a standard starting point for all that is internet geekery. It’s like Macy’s for dorks. Thinkgeek is a fantastic site with everything from tee shirts to kitchen ware. They cover all ranges of geekery too, catering to both the Star Wars fanboy AND the Chemist in your life. With a fabulous little search bar, you can type in any type of geekery you’re interested in and it will spit out at the very least three items that fall under that category. And if you’re not sure where to start yet or if you’re on a budget, they also have a fantastic Holiday Gift finder set up to help you in your shopping needs. They even have a section for stocking stuffers! It’s super cute and these people make good quality merchandise. They have fabulous customer service, as they are geeks just like you and want to make sure you are super happy with your product. I highly recommend this site.

Got a gamer in your life? Jinx is a site for just gaming stuff. The store itself is predominantly tee shirts, but they’re clever and very gaming oriented. If you’ve ever watch the TV Show “The IT Crowd”, about 3/4ths of Roy’s wardrobe on the show is from this site. Apart from coming up with their own clever, witty stuff that ranges all over the gaming field, they also distribute the merch for such games as World of Warcraft, Starcraft, Dungeons and Dragons, EVE Online, Aion and most recently, Afro Samurai. . A fan of Felicia Day’s “The Guild”? This is the only site you can get their merch on too. Really cute/cool stuff made with good quality material. What I love most about this site though is that they try to put up as many fan photos as possible. “Why is this awesome?” you may ask. Well, if you’re not stick skinny, it’s often really hard to know how cloths are going to look on you if you’re looking at them online. They look GREAT on the anorexic models who are showing them off, but how will they look on me, the person who enjoys hamburgers and diet soda? Since there are so many fan photos, you can often see the shirt you are looking at on other people of all different shapes and sizes, seeing what looks good and what doesn’t.

Wanna get a little more out there? Got a crafty geek in your life? Etsy.com is THE place for unique hand-made items made by regular people like you and me dear readers! It’s like a flea market for the internet. The crazy thing about this site is that a TON of nerds are on it, so normally, (disclaimer: but not all the time), if you type in something geeky, someone has done something with it. On this site I’ve seen everything from Tardis stained glass suncatchers, Battlestar Galactica themed purses and Batman dresses. The beauty of all these gifts is that whatever you decide to get, it will be one of a kind, which adds something extra super special to your gift. I myself make earrings I hope to sell on Etsy some day. This site takes a little more time to sift through, but it is well worth the dig because you will find something extraordinary as a result.

I may be dating myself a bit on this one, but does anyone else remember the WB Store? They used to be in malls all over America but now what was once a place I used to go as a child to play inside a giant Batmobile and where I got my first Dark Knight slippers has been confined to the internet, until such day as a savior will come, fight a dragon and free it. Until that day comes though, you’d be amazed what stuff WB holds the rights to and as a result, they have a TON of merch to. If you’re looking for a superhero geek or a horror movie buff, THIS is the place to go. Full of random but fun finds such as Freddy/Jason/Leatherface shot glasses and SUPERNATURAL MERCH (sorry guys…. I got really excited at that one) it also goes so far as to cary fine jewelry based around some of your favorites. They have great Batman and Superman watch selections (*coughcough ladieslookingforgents coughcough*).

Now, fair warning, this shit’s pricy. I include it for the more romantic readers who are looking for something very special for their significant others. Noblecollections.com came to my attentions in the early 2000′s due to the fact that they were the carriers of fine Lord of the Rings jewelry. They have since expanded and cover a really nice array for fancy pants nerdity, including such big names as Batman, Superman, Harry Potter and the Pirates of the Caribbean. If you’re looking to shell out a little extra dough to find that lucky gentleman or lady something they’ll have/love forever, go here. Nothing says I love you like an Evenstar Pendant. (remember… like in the movie?!?! HA!)

With the recent successes of the film Zombieland, the soon-to-be-released New Moon (based on the Twilight saga), and the upcoming Wolfman (expected to hit theaters in December), I want to discuss the Monster Mash movie revival that has hit our generation. In the 70s and 80s it was the masked killer, the slasher. Freddy, Michael and Jason stalked and scared the crap out of women, yet every year we were drawn back to the theaters for Friday the 13th parts two, three, four, etc., etc. (Fun Fact: women are the predominant horror movie viewers, not men, though most horror movies are geared towards the latter, featuring excessive nudity and violence). We womenfolk have always been drawn to these supernatural beings of terror because there’s something very exciting and kind of sexy about them. The basic “survivor girl” who flirts with danger but is able to transform from teenage girl to woman via supernatural trauma has been the subject of many a book, article, and subconscious theme of awesome for years.

Today, we no longer fight masked killers on the screen. Now, we look to the internalized monsters that become externalized in creature form. Monsters of sex, animalistic behavior, and indestructible death. Rather than making our some evil extension of humanity (a dude in a hockey mask, for example), we have taken our fears back to actual creatures of the night, right out of the pages of European lore and modern post-apocalyptic literature. What is it we see in these creatures that draws us to them so readily? These monsters are not feared the way they once were, but are rather put on pedestals and considered awesome, cool, or models for potential mates. Let’s take a look at why we love these terrifying monsters the way we do.

The Basic, All-Around Favorite: Zombies

Despite scads of recent films in release, video game themes and popular costume ideas, zombie mania actually hit the film world running in 1968 with George A. Romero’s infamous classic, Night of the Living Dead. In this film, the dead rose with no discernable cause and could not be stopped, which terrified people. Death was imminent, literally knocking at the door and there was nothing to do about it. But the modern zombie movie has become about something quite different: survival. We have come up with reasons for our zombie infestations that are based within real world fears, specifically based within the medical community. As the world is assaulted with more and more medical fears, vaccinations, cancers, Alzheimer’s, and now the pressure on health care, the idea of a medically-based apocalypse isn’t completely out of the picture. (Did I mention swine flu?) Mix that in with the distrust of major corporations (Umbrella Corporation, that place with the monkeys from 28 Days Later, and so on) and you’ve got yourself a pretty terrifying villain. This is the shift from zombie terror to zombie fascination. The zombies are the sad tools of these corporations, who hold culpability rather than the zombies themselves. Zombies have become a symbol of modern death that follows us, trying to keep us from basic survival in the world. They are the nameless entity we hack, shoot through, and avoid in order to maintain the survival of the human race, even though most of these films portray no sense of hope for human survival. Safe houses, if they exist at all, are filled with military rapists or some other manner of baddie. People because monsters themselves as they are forced to make the hard decisions that weigh the needs of the many verses the needs of the few. A modern-day Lord of the Flies situation, if you will. Zombies provide a means to confront death and deal with it hands-on. When we see that guy shooting the zombie in the head with a shotgun, it is our way of saying the proverbial “fuck you” to death. We are the ones in control. We don’t survive because we have to. We survive because we want to.

The Perennially Popular Bloodsuckers: Vampires

The message behind the vampire has morphed dramatically since its original entrance to popular culture, predominantly due to the fact that they are creatures that terrify us because we are in love with them. The original Dracula film is no longer considered scary compared to today’s splatter tactics; however, for its time, it screamed of homophobia and the fear of foreign invasion. The vampire is a being who can seduce any woman or man with the power of a gaze (don’t believe me, go back and re-watch those earlier Dracula and Renfeild scenes). The idea of foreign (accented), sexualized men swooping in during the night and seducing these perfect white women is something that truly terrified the predominantly white, heterosexual audience. Feminized men were tearing down the idea that brash heterosexuality alone will win the girl. But, these creatures have lasted through the ages because of more than “othered” fear. The very nature of the vampire is sexual and poetic. The poetry of the handsome creature that offers eternal life and beauty, but at a dark price. The sexuality of the idea that the vampire bite itself sexually satisfies both an oral fixation and penetration all at once. The vampire is the sexually stimulating bad boy of the monster world. But, they are still monsters, which is why by the end of the films, they must die. Films like “Interview with a Vampire” showed that the softer side of the beast is an abnormality. Women have looked to the vampire for a sense of emotional connection and resist when they realize there is a monster underneath. The modern vampire was perfected in the 90s with Joss Whedon’s iconic showBuffy the Vampire Slayer with the two dominant male vampires: Angel (aka Angelus) and Spike (aka William the Bloody). Angel was a vampire cursed with a soul; therefore, the monstrous part of the vampire was dormant within him. However, the curse would break when he experienced true happiness , and as a result the true non-neutered vampire came out. We would forget to be scared of Angel, until his soul was taken away. Spike, on the other hand, was a vampire who when he began to experience feelings of love and human kindness, drove himself mad as a result. Spike showed off the monstrous part of what it is to be human. There is no way for the human side and the monster side to co-exist. With the over-saturation of vampire love stories in recent days, we have defanged the vampire, which is why we no longer fear him. Vampires are broken up into two categories, which for the sake of argument I shall call the “sparkly kind” and the “savage kind”. These sparkly vampires are the sensitive, feminized creatures who share secrets and feelings. This is the one side of the Bela Lugosi that worked so well. The side that loves Mina, that craves only Mina that he would do anything for her. These are the Edward Cullens (haha, get it… sparkly?) and the Bill Comptons of the vampire media. They are good guys who we want to be bad boys because they are “dangerous”. Not in the real danger kind of way, though. In the “I drive a motorcycle and stay up past my bed time” kind of way. We love them because we, as the objects of affection, actually hold the most power over them. There are many allusions to danger and they certainly like to think they are, but these guys are never the dangerous beings themselves, because the lovers control their actions fully. These creatures drop everything they are doing to save their women. The savage kind are villains. Plain and simple. In the first installation of the Twilight saga, the Cullens are confronted by “bad vampires” who try to kill Bella. In the first season of True Blood, Bill Compton has to fight against savage vampires who come into town and start killing citizens of Bon Temps. Vampires are no longer creatures in our eyes. They are sexual fantasies of feminine men. The oversaturation of this divided imagery is why we no longer fear them.

The Oncoming Storm: The Werewolf

Now I know what you’re all thinking. The Del Toro The Wolfman movie has yet to come out! How can I make declarations of social commentary on a phenomenon that has yet to be unleashed on the public? Well keep your shorts on dear readers, for a new age is coming, I guarantee you. In fact, it has already begun, in a minor manner of speaking. With vampires, there must always be werewolves. They are counter balance creatures, which is why they seem to always fight in literature and on the screen. Look at the Underworld series, or the Team Edward vs. Team Jacob pop culture spat (you see? I told you this was already goin’ on). While vampires are the feminine men who feel, werewolves are the masculine men who act. It’s like comparing a painter to a football player. But this new wolfman film on the horizon has something different in store than all the other monster films that we have been experiencing/has been discussed in this post. This new film wants to scare you. Scare you like the old monster films used to by putting the creature back into the human and making us all deal with it. The wolfman represents the modern relationship. You get to know a person and you want them to mean something in their life, but they have “this thing” they have to deal with from their past. It’s the dark secret you don’t want someone to know about you. It’s the baggage brought into a relationship that comes out unexpectedly one night when you’re sitting on the couch drinking wine with your partner and the moon is full. Where the zombie is the death we try to control and the vampire is the sexual fantasy we want to control, the wolfman is the actual monster within us all. He’s the secret we can’t control. He’s putting the masculinity and the danger back into what we secretly crave from the vampire. The vampire has become the tender lover while the wolfman is slowly coming to represent rough sex. After years of talking about feelings and sparkly skin, it is that unabashed, uncontrolled animalistic side that we now want to see.

There you have it, ladies. These creature features are here to stay because let’s face it, we all find something we need in them. We enjoy the idea of controlling these creatures, but let’s look forward to the lack of control too, for that is the most shockingly human.

Thankfully this is only my second hiatus since fan girls the blog has begun and hopefully there will not be another without merit for quite some time. Well here of course is the traditional Batman symbol. This is fun for kids and adults alike. Its recognizable, its geeky and its EASY. The beauty of this one too is that it is the original bat symbol, so while other people look lame by just doing the fancy Dark Knight symbol or a creepy Heath Ledger Joker, your pumpkin will stay stylish, simple and classic.

So, for all the math geeks out there, this is both clever and nerdy. Again, very simple and easy to cut, but haha! Its pumpkin pi! Get it? Impress people with your incredible wit! You are clearly the most clever person on your block, to put such a witty pun into your holiday festivities.

Everyone loves video games! Here are two video game based templates to show your support for both Gears of War, or if you are feeling slightly more ambitious and less violent, the ever popular Rock Band! Gears of War is a pretty easy design, where as Rock Band is a little more ambitious, ranking out at a solid medium level of difficulty. So rise up gamers! Show your fandom AFK!

Now what kind of magnificent ass hat would I be if I didn’t include some Star Wars stencils? These are great for the whole “Dark Side of the Porch” theme. Both Bobba Fett and Dark Vader will look incredibly creepy and badass, scaring adult and small child alike. And we all know scaring children is what Halloween is all about. Right? RIGHT?! But yeah, both of these you just cut out the grey parts and you’ll have something pretty awesome. The Fett man is pretty easy and Sir Vader is an easy to medium cut. Have fun!

Now, while I am not personally a Linux person, I know the people who are will defend this little Tux Penguin TO THE DEATH. So if you are one of the folks who runs this incredibly strange system (no offence intended, it just confounds me), show off your techie pride!

Looking for something a little more pop culture oriented? Show your happiness for the return of Futurama with this fantastic Bender the Robot stencil. Got kids in your neighborhood? Don’t include the writing. Don’t give a shit about kids in your neighborhood? Go for it! The orange area indicates that this area can be “shaded”. If you don’t know how to do that though, its totally fine to just not cut out that area of the pumpkin. Either way this is a great fun easy design for fanfolk!

Speaking of pop culture, lets stray away from the Team Edward/Team Jacob pumpkins this year. They will probably get smashed by anyone who isn’t 16 years old and a girl. Instead, how about trying this True Blood template to spice up your vampiric night life. Super simple but very iconic, this image is a great way to add a little sex to your doorstep, I mean, if thats what you’re into .

This is a super sweet throw back to the original series of Star Trek. Just cut where the white area is, and you’ll have young Lenord Nemoy looking out on all your neighborhood, judging human emotions in silence, but with dignity. With the new Star Trek movie, you’re bound to get a ton of Federation clad trick or treaters, so this design will be a great hit with almost everyone who sees it! It looks harder than it is, but this design is totally easy to medium on the difficulty level scale.

British fear is the best kind of fear. This Doctor Who template is a GREAT way to show off incredible fandom and it also makes for a pretty terrifying looking pumpkin. Even if people don’t know what it is, this Ood will send shivers down the spine of any geek or non geek that visits your door. Probably the hardest design of the group, ranking out at a solid medium in difficulty, this still is totally doable by the artistically challenged and would be a super cool, super unique addition to your doorstep.

Last but not least ladies, I give you my personal favorite. Meet the Ash pumpkin. Encapsulating all of the Evil Dead/Army of Darkness glory that is Bruce Campbell, this design is incredibly fun and fantastic for the geek who just doesn’t have enough chainsaw hand in their life. This thing looks FANTASTIC when finished, and ranks at a medium carving level (the chainsaw and the scraggly pant leg is why it gets that rating), but out of the mouth of the great man himself, this pumpkin design is one word. Groovy.

First of all fanfolk, I think we can all take a moment to say FINALLY! Last night at midnight we were finally able to see the season premiere of the fourth season of the fantastic hit show “The Venture Brothers”. Thank you Adult Swim. We were wondering when you assholes were gonna hurry the fuck up and show us more Bros!

Although modeled off of various old adventure cartoons, the show is predominantly based on the old Jonny Quest adventure show. Boy adventurers traveling all over the world with their renowned super-scientist father and bodyguard solving mysteries and fighting off villainous costumed aggressors in the name of, you guessed it, SCIENCE! However dealing with giant man-eating snake people and having to be able to shoot people trying to kill your father from the time you are able to pee standing up can take its toll on a young child. As this lifestyle certainly does in “The Venture Brothers”.  Ex boy adventurer now super-scientist Dr. Thaddeus “Rusty” Venture is a pill popper trying to make some quick cash off of the remains of his great father’s works, while his two twin sons, Hank and Dean Venture, live in a continuous state of child like naivete. While they long to grow up, they lack the maturity due to their constant stasis at the age of 16 years old (they have a tendency to wind up dead, so their father keeps a few illegal clones lying around).

But last night  we the viewers are getting a different connection with the two dimwitted boys we know and love. With the epic battle of O.S.I verses the wrath of the Mighty Monarch, all the remaining Venture clones are left dead and destroyed, meaning that now with no replacements on hold, Dr. Venture will have to let his sons grow up. We are beginning to see this psychological transformation as of last night into how the boys will be having to deal with real life and real life problems, which should lead to a super awesome and super different upcoming season.

Lets start with the slightly more obvious Hank Venture.With his idol Brock Samson gone, Hank is beginning to suffer a type of missing parent syndrome, specifically a mother figure. Bodyguard Samson cooks meals and takes care of the boys in a cherishing mother like way, while being a hyper sexualized masculine killing machine. With the safe nurturing nature of feminine already in place, the usually speculated Oedipal complex normally seen in young men is quickly replaced by the masculine desire to be all that is man. While the sexual drive is not there, the drive for successful sexual emulation is. It is a kind of psychosexual displacement. He does not want to have sex with Brock Samson, but rather he wants to be the sexual figure that is Brock Samson, thusly filling the Oedipal sexualized void that would be there had there been a female mother figure in the picture. When this figurehead leaves without even saying goodbye, Hank is left with a feeling of abandonment and betrayal. On top of this the figurehead is replaced very quickly by Sergeant Hatred, the Venture family’s ex arch nemesis and sexual deviant. A step-mom typed quality between the two quickly arises. Here is the anti-Brock. An overweight geezer who turns their home into a military unit, complete with uniforms. Not to mention previous suggestion in the series that Sergeant Hatred had tried to sexually deviate the boys out of their speedsuits doesn’t help in Hanks outright feeling of alienation towards this new figurehead. We see all this through Hank’s quiet and not so quiet signs of rebellion. He wears Brock’s old jacket and is beginning to grow his hair out longer. He talks back to Hatred, refusing to accept him as their new bodyguard, stating the Brock is his bodyguard. For lack of a better analogy, he is trying to become his mother.

Dean Venture has been dealing with coping for quite some time now.  Even before this season premiere, Dean has let his feelings about his life of “adventure” slip out. “I always say follow your dreams! Even if they’re about a giant spider with your Father’s head, and he keeps stealing your penis!” (S3,e4 “Home is Where the Hate Is”). Mild mannered and more of the bookworm to his brothers (wannabe) brawn, Dean Venture sense of masculinity is constantly thwarted by his father in his mind, much like how Dr. Venture feels constantly thwarted by Dr. Venture Senior, who even in death constantly hangs a shadow of judgement over his son. He constantly throughout the series up until this point has disapproved of Deans choice in women and calls him “delicate” and a “sissy” on more than one occasion. He has been forced to act as Drink Maid to the adults, is constantly belittled in public by other males and is even forced to dress up like Princess Leia. Dean very much so sees himself in the shadow of his father, and as a result has developed a plethora of anxiety disorders. He has been on the cusp of becoming a man but feels constantly beaten back by his father, who is criticizing his masculinity. The result of this however seems to be more a deep seeded need to become not just a man, but a man better than Dr. Venture. With the season premiere we see Dean wearing his speedsuit, the only outfit his father ever wears, and we see him seriously beginning to take steps towards becoming a super-scientist. On top of this, we see Dean defy his father for what he feels is right. When the adults in his life tell him that his new dog, who he has named Giant Boy Detective, is evil and must be stabbed to death by Dean, he refuses to do so, taking a moral high ground that his father barely reaches. (The sadness of course being that his Dog is infused with the blood of Hitler and has been brought to the compound by Nazis who wish for Dr. Venture to make a clone of their Fuehrer). While he still runs out of the room wailing and comments are still made about his lack of manhood as of yet, I suspect a major game changing event ahead for young Dean. The builds for the past few seasons, including in the season 3 finale as Hank mans up and Dean breaks down. Dean is coping with the internilization of his feelings about his life and this life his father has thrust upon him and he is on the brink. When he breaks later this season, I anticipate it being one of the best episodes we’ve ever seen.

Of course there was also nazis and bionic men and sexy assassins and we get to see Brock Samson stab Hitler back to death(something on his list of cool shit he never thought he’d get to do). Of course the show is still animated and its full of dog poop jokes and crazy necromancers and some throwbacks to D&D and Comic Book nerdom. But its ok to learn from our TV shows sometimes and something tells me theres going to be a lot of intellectuallism involved in this season. So put on your thinking caps kids! Grab your Rusty Venture lunchboxes and your butterfly themed tee shirts and most of all…

Go Team Venture!

As Halloween crawls ever closer, it seems appropriate to take a moment and discuss an ever growing problem amongst fangirls and fanwomen alike. Halloween is many fanfolk’s favorite holiday due to the sheer fact that we can all find a great communal excuse to cosplay, which is awesome. It’s a huge part of most Cons it’s a fun way to express nerdom.

But ladies, ladies. We have hit a point where cosplay has gone a little too far. Now, to understand the starting point where I am coming from with this, please view the instructional video below…

As a chick I totally understand the importance of asserting one’s sexuality. Thanks to the 90s, the miniskirt has become a symbol of female empowerment, which is awesome! Especially for girls who want to go out and feel confident by looking hot, it’s totally understandable why Halloween costumes have gotten sexier and sexier. But there is a big difference between these two images below….

Or even worse….. this image.

So how do we fight the desire to be a total slut for Halloween? Again, super difficult. Guys are very pro-slut in this day and age (as the line between real life and porno grows ever thinner). So if you’re a single lady going out this holiday season, how can you compete with Dog Collar/Leash Girl and crotch splitting Wonder Woman?

Well if there’s one thing we at Fangirls: the Blog are partial to, its class. You can still be a classy, sexy, smoldering individual without having to resort to being a slut. Granted dear reader, anything can be made slutty if you wish hard enough, but there will be tons of girls running around with their tits hanging out and their cooter on display, so what will draw the eye to you is the fact that you still look and feel amazingly hot and you don’t NEED a costume that makes you look like a tramp to get attention. It’s about being confident and classy. So here are a few ideas from us here at Fangirls for fun nerdy Halloween costumes (that can easily cross over into cosplay) that are still sexy, easy to do yourself, and not slutty. Unless you REALLY want them to be.

This is a kick ass costume for gamer girls. Shirt and pants you can find in a thrift store, combat boots and a couple of “do if yourself” gun holsters leads to a pretty neat conversation costume. With the movies that came out, people wont be totally oblivious to the character (which can be difficult for nerds at  times), and even if people don’t recognize it right away, you look like a sexy jungle adventurer regardless. Its nothing you wouldn’t wear on a hot summer day, jazzed up with a spike of superhot because of the dangerously sexy nature of the character.

2. Princess Peach

Wanna be a princess without being a Disney princess? Peach is a great, fun, and elegant way of getting to put on a gown and feel like royalty. If a gown is a little too hard to find, a knee high pink dress gives an air of allure without looking skanktastic. The gloves add a touch of elegance and sexiness (there’s something very burlesque about them) and the jewelry is super easy to acquire or even make yourself. It’s cute, its fun and its easy. You can dress it up or down as much as you like. I recommend adding the parasol for extra cuteness. Also this can become a great group costume if you’ve got any friends who can dress up like Mario, Luigi or Yoshi.

3.  The Women of Star Trek TOS

I can personally attest that this costume works like a charm. The TOS dresses are super short, so be aware of that, but since the rest is long sleeved and it doesn’t have your chest hanging out everywhere, it’s still about to keep away from slutty while looking super hot. Nurse Chapel, Yeomen Rand or Lt. Uhura make great iconic costumes (I’ve also seen some really cool female Kirks wearing the gold colored dress). Worn with sheer black stockings and knee high black boots, this costume is also keeps you warm in the Fall weather which is always a plus. Also the new costumes from the new movie is pretty hot too, though it only comes in red. Also this costume gives for great chances to experiment with awesome hairstyles (If you’re feeling super ambitious I say go for Rand’s crazy coif).

4. The Silk Spectre, Sally Jupiter

Now this costume is for those of you who want to go a little more risky. The beauty of the burlesque style is that the more you cover with a costume like this, the sexier it actually is (its psychology! science rocks!). Watchmen is one of the best graphic novels ever and thanks to the movie, this won’t be an unknown character. If you actually follow what she wears in the film, a black strapless leotard undernieth everything and if you keep the skirt to about mid-thigh, you can really have something spectacularly va-va-voom without feeling uncomfortable. Like the peach outfit, this is worn with long black gloves which add to the allure as well as thigh-high fishnet stockings and black high boots. If you don’t feel like making it, there is a really classy version of this costume being sold with the new Watchmen costume series which isn’t totally trashy.

5. Harley Quinn

Never underestimate the power of full body costumes. If you keep to cloth and stay away from vinyl the slut factor magically disappears and sexy reigns supreme. This is a great duel colored costume that just oozes sex if you feel confident in it. The white accents around the wrists are great ways to really make the costume pop. Also something that can really spice it up is if rather than wearing the whiteface makeup and headpiece, do up the blonde hair in pigtails and don the red lipstick for an unmasked Harley. Its a great way to keep warm in Fall and since everything is covered spectacularly you can really shake it without having to worry about anything being overly exposed. With all the Joker costumes floating around since the Dark Knight movie, this costume is sure to turn heads and be a great conversation starter.

So this year, when you go to pick our your Halloween costume, or as you get ready to start designing your stuff for Con, keep these little tips in mind, if not these costumes. When a costume is also sold in the roleplaying section of your local porn store, maybe you should consider something else. You can be that confident, awesome, sexy fangirl this season while still maintaining sexual dignity. If you still want to dress more provocativly, who am I to stop you dear reader. I’m just trying to tell you all, there is a middle ground between sexy sexy aaaannd frog. Make them work for it. Don’t give it all away for free.
